I’m Toni, a Software Engineer working at Respawn Entertainment responsible for building UI Systems on Apex Legends. Gameplay and UI are my main areas of interest however I enjoy programming quite literaly anything.

UE4 Axe Throw (C++ & BP)

Implemented an Axe Throw mechanic heavily inspired on God of War.

My work is the axe behaviour and functionality in C++.
Axe calculates the number of spins based on distance from the player.
Axe correctly lodges on any surface, including angled surfaces.
Easily change curvature, speeds and rotations from the editor.
A lot of attention to detail and polish, the main purpose was to take a simple mechanic concept and make it complex.
One of the most valuable things I learned during this project besides developing my skills with Unreal Engine is the importance of using debugging tools to find bugs faster, after this project I started creating and using debugging elements that sped up my workflow.

DX11 Shaders (C++ & HLSL)

Coded a dynamic graphical application utilizing DX11 shaders.

Trochoidal waves with correct lighting that receive shadows of other geometry and the water color is based on depth. (with dynamic tessellation).
Swappable tessellated terrain generation based on heightmaps. (also has dynamic tessellation).
Grass shader with wind simulation, random blade rotation, height and spacing per vertex.
Pointlights and Directional lights with shadow maps.
Most shader parameters can be changed with ImGui in runtime.
In this project, I developed my C++ skills a lot and learned about memory management between the CPU and the GPU, in some cases the framework that the university provided wasn't enough so I extended some parts of it.

Game (Unity)

Currently developing a game prototype for and mentored by "Futurlab" as part of my degree in University with a team of 9 (4 programmers, 3 Artists, 1 Audio, 1 Producer). Inspired on "Bomberman".

Working on game mechanics, gameplay, animations and UI.
Solving merge conflicts of the team and making sure code is to stipulated standard.
Organizing the programming team and reporting to production to ensure smooth communication between disciplines.
Using AGILE SCRUM for the development of the project.
Responsible for making sure all the code works together and get builds ready for delivery.

Headpat Simulator (Unity)

After seeing a gap in Google Play for Anime themed Idle games and people voicing their interest in the concept, I designed and developed one.

Game is published and Free to download in Google Play.
Ads integrated with Admob (Banner and Rewarded ads).
Easy to add more unlockable characters to the game.
Simple and engaging gameplay.
Currently over 100 downloads.
This was my first mobile project so I learned about scaling for different devices, making a hypercasual game design, how to target audience and used monetization techniques learned at Pocket Gamer Connects conferences.

Hell Escape (Unity)

Extended "Hell Escape" game jam submission, ported it to mobile and published it.

Game is published and Free to download in Google Play.
I took all the feedback and criticism from other participants of the game jam and applied it here.
I implemented a coin pick up system to keep the player more engaged.
I added a save system to store the highest score between play sessions and improved UI, added menus along with music, SFX and VFX.

YMCA Scotland - Alchemix (Unity)

Developed a Networked Multiplayer game in 7 days for YMCA Scotland that fitted the needs of a provided brief.

Programming and design of some of the minigames.
Managing team schedule/tasks and communication between artists (2) and programmers (2).
Responsible for all Network Programming using Mirror.
I coded simple Shaders for characters.
Laying level minigames and objects following artists designs.
Previous to this project I'd never collaborated remotely with a team, so by making a lot of mistakes and merge conflicts I developed my skills with version control using Unity. It was also my first Networked games so I learned that during the development.

GGJ 2021 - Return to Monke (Unity)

Participated with the team members of the Game under NDA for Futurlab and focused on having fun while making the game to build a stronger bond as a team. I was responsible for the majority of the code.

The team came up with the idea after watching some memes.
Responsible for programming of AI, mechanics, animations and audio of the game.
Game Jam was used as a testing ground for the main project we are working on where I realized that the character controller that we intended to use needed a full redesign.

Spooky Game Jam - Hell Escape (Unity)

Developed a mobile game prototype solo in a day for the Anual Spooky Game Jam (Abertay University) inspired on "Ninja Jump".

Since I did this alone all of the code is mine.
Enemy and player animation programming.
Jumping from wall to wall with a mouseclick.
Score system based on time survived.
Gameplay speeds up over time.
It was my first time making an infinite scrolling game so I learned different techniques to repeat the level continuously in a seamless manner.
